Massachusetts State Police Release — 07312014 — Woodstock, VT Man Arrested After Pursuit on Route 91in Deerfield
Last night, at approximately 6:50 p.m., Trooper Charles Murphy, assigned to the State Police Barracks in Northampton, stopped a 2011 Nissan Altima on Route 91 northbound in the town of Deerfield for motor vehicle violations.
The operator was identified as PAUL HEIM, 30 from Woodstock, VT. During the stop, Trooper Murphy attempted to place HEIM under arrest but HEIM resisted and a struggled ensued. HEIM got back in his vehicle and fled north on Route 91 dragging Trooper Murphy a short distance. Trooper Murphy was able to return to his cruiser and pursue the vehicle Route 91 north.
During the pursuit troopers noticed HEIM throw an object from the vehicle. A search of the area where troopers saw HEIM throw the object revealed narcotics. Approximately, 182 bags of a white powdery substance consistent with heroin, a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance consistent with crack cocaine and drug paraphenalia was found.
A State Police supervisor, additional troopers from the Northampton and Shelburne Falls Barracks, MSP Airwing and the Deerfield Police Department responded to assist.
Deerfield Police deployed a tire deflation device at the 48.4 mile marker on Route 91NB. The suspect vehicle struck the tire deflation device and stopped at the 50.0 mile marker.
HEIM was arrested and transported to the State Police Barracks in Northampton for booking.

Possession of Class A
Possession of Class B
Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle
Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle
A&B w/ a Dangerous Weapon
A&B on Police Officer
