Massachusetts State Police Release – 06012014 – State Police make Arrest and Seize Illegally Possessed Firearm in Springfield
Yesterday afternoon at approximately 5:42 p.m., Sergeant Brendhan Shugrue of the Troop B Community Action Team (B-CAT), was on patrol of Interstate 91 northbound in the city of Springfield when he observed an Infiniti also traveling north. A query of the registration revealed the registration plates did not belong to the Infiniti. Sergeant Shugrue stopped the vehicle just after it exited at exit 2.
After an investigation a loaded .40 caliber Glock 27 was located within the vehicle as well as a sum of U.S. currency, believed to be from the sales of narcotics. A bag of marijuana believed to be packaged for distribution, was also located. The driver was subsequently identified as ANIBAL J. COLLAZO, 20, of West Springfield. COLLAZO is not licensed to carry firearms.
COLLAZO was placed under arrest and brought to the Springfield Barracks for booking. COLLAZO was held on $3,000 bail and will be brought this morning to Springfield District Court to be arraigned on the following offenses:
- Possession of a firearm without a license
- Possession of ammunition without a license
- Possession of a large capacity firearm
- Possession of a Class D Substance with intent to distribute (Marijuana)
- Possession of a loaded firearm
- Attaching plates
