State Police Assist with Drowning in Westfield River

Massachusetts State Police Media Release–062914–State Police Assist Westfield Police and Fire Departments with Drowning in Westfield River
Last night at approximately 6:30 p.m., the Massachusetts State Police provided various assets to assist the Westfield Police and Fire Departments with a search for a missing 33 year-old Springfield man, who disappeared while swimming in the Westfield River in the area of Hancock and Park Streets.  Troopers assigned to the State Police Underwater Recovery Team and the State Police Air Wing responded to assist with the search, which was subsequently halted at approximately 9:15 p.m., due to darkness.
Early this morning, the search resumed, and again the State Police deployed divers and air support personnel.  At approximately 11:00 a.m., State Police divers recovered the deceased victim, downstream from where witnesses reported last seeing him.  Personnel on scene were assisted by officers from the Massachusetts Environmental Police, troopers from the State Police Detective Unit attached to the Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, and troopers from the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
