Massachusetts State Police Media Release–06-27-2014– State Police Arrest Suspect and Recover Handgun After Motor Vehicle Pursuit in Brockton
This is a preliminary report
At 4:00 p.m. today in furtherance of a criminal investigation, a trooper assigned to the Troop D Community Action Team (CAT) attempted to stop a motor vehicle on Hillberg Ave in Brockton. The operator of that vehicle failed to stop for the trooper and a brief motor vehicle pursuit ensued.
The operator of the vehicle, identified as LUIS D GARCIA crashed his vehicle, a 2004 Quest, in the area of 289 Hillberg Ave. GARCIA fled from the scene of the crash and led troopers on a short foot pursuit. During the foot pursuit troopers noticed GARCIA throw an object.
GARCIA was eventually captured and arrested. A search of the area where troopers saw GARCIA throw the object revealed a handgun.
At this time it is believed that GARCIA was the sole occupant of the vehicle during this entire incident.
A State Police supervisor, additional troopers from the Middleboro Barracks, the State Police Crime Scene Service Section, along with the Brockton Fire Department respond to the scene of the crash and arrest.
GARCIA was transported by the Brockton Fire Department to Brockton Hospital for evaluation.
This is an ongoing investigation and updated information will be released as it becomes available.
