Massachusetts State Police Media Release –04142014–State Police Investigate a Fatal Crash Route 24 in Freetown


This afternoon at approximately 3:40 p.m., troopers from the Dartmouth Barracks responded to the report of a motor vehicle hitting a tractor trailer on Route 24 Northbound, north of exit 9 in Freetown.


Preliminary reports indicate that the vehicle was travelling northbound, when, for reasons still unclear, the 32 year old female operator from Raynham, lost control and swerved off the roadway crashing into the rear of a tractor trailer. The female operator and lone occupant of the Honda was determined deceased at the scene.  The tractor trailer was parked off the roadway and on the shoulder of the breakdown lane.  The operator of the tractor trailer was in the cab of the truck at the time of the crash.


The facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police, Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (C.A.R.S.), Crime Scene Service Section (C.S.S.S.), State Police Detectives assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, MassDOT, Freetown Fire/EMS, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner’s all responded to the scene to assist in this investigation.


The breakdown lane and right travel lane were closed until 7:01p.m., to allow for rescue operations, investigation and clean up.
