Two People Injured, Operator Arrested For Operating Under the Influence after Crash On Route 91 Northbound in Springfield

This morning at 1:04 a.m. troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Springfield responded to Route 91 Northbound in Springfield for reports of a single vehicle crash.

As troopers responded to the scene, a separate call was received at the barracks about a second vehicle colliding with the vehicle from the original crash and a pedestrian at that scene.

Springfield Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the scene.

When emergency crews arrived they discovered the operator of the vehicle involved in the original crash identified as, Sterling Hall, 57 of Springfield, suffering from non life-threatening injures.

Troopers also discovered the second victim identified as, Kyle Clini,  22, of Ludlow suffering from serious but not life-threatening injuries. Clini was a not a passenger in either vehicle, he was a pedestrian at the scene of the original crash.

Both victims were transported by ambulance to Baystate Hospital for treatment.

The operator of the second motor vehicle involved in this incident fled on foot from the scene prior to the arrival of emergency personnel.

A State Police K-9 team was requested to search for the operator of the second vehicle.

After a search, the operator of the second vehicle was located.  That person is identified as JULIO L. PEREZ, 27, of Springfield.

After further investigation, troopers arrested PEREZ.  He was transported to the barracks in Springfield.

PEREZ is charged with the following charges:
1. Operating Under the Influence of Liquor
2. Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident
3. Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
4. Operating with a Suspended License

PEREZ is being held pending his arraignment in Springfield District Court on Monday April, 1, 2014.
