Massachusetts State Police from the Hampden District Attorney’s Office and the Russell Barracks on Saturday afternoon responded to unattended death along railroad tracks in the area of Lower Prospect Street in Chester. Subsequent investigation by state and local police indicate that the male victim had been struck and killed by a passing train.
The victim has been identified as Jacob Stiles, 23, of Chester. The exact time the man was struck remains under investigation. State Police were notified to respond at 5:30 p.m. Saturday after the crew of a passing Amtrak train reported the body. No train reported hitting the man and no train was on scene when police arrived.
The investigation into why Mr. Stiles was on the tracks is ongoing. State and local police are working with CSX Police, the railroad law enforcement agency, to gather further information about trains that were in the area in the time period during which the man was likely struck.
