Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 12202013 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash in Waltham

UPDATE:   The operator of the vehicle is identified as Edward Fredericks, 77, of Waltham.

Original release:

This afternoon at 2:52 p.m. trooper from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Concord responded to a single vehicle crash on Interstate 95 Northbound, North of Route 20 in Waltham.  On arrival, troopers discovered that a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria had collided with the center median barrier.

Initial investigation revealed that the operator of the vehicle had suffered a medical incident prior to losing control of his vehicle.  Subsequently the vehicle made contact with the center median barrier and came to rest.

The operator of the was transported by ambulance to Newton-Wellesley Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the State Police Concord Barracks.  Waltham Fire Department and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation assisted at the scene.
