Massachusetts State Police Release – 11202013 – Two More Most Wanted Sex Offenders Captured
The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS) has arrested two more of its Most Wanted High Risk Level 3 Sex Offenders. Today’s additional arrests bring to seven the number of Most Wanted Sex Offenders captured after the unit’s new list was to the media and posted on MSP’s social media sites. The first two were arrested Monday.
VFAS South Team arrested the sixth of the top ten most wanted this morning in Roxbury. ROBERT C. SMITH, 53, was captured after an investigation by a Trooper of the VFAS South Team. The investigation lead the Trooper to a residence in Roxbury. With the assistance of Boston Police Detectives and U.S. Marshalls, VFAS Troopers took ROBERT C. SMITH into custody
ROBERT C. SMITH was wanted out of Suffolk Superior Court for Distribution of Cocaine and other Drug Violations near a School/Park. SMITH has been charged on two occasions for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender and continues to violate his obligations as a Level 3 Sex Offender.
SMITH was convicted in Suffolk Superior Court of Indecent Assault & Battery for a 1988 incident in which he forced his way into a female’s bedroom and sexually assaulted her. In addition, SMITH was convicted on an Indecent Assault & Battery charge for a 2002 case where he sexually assaulted a second female.
Today’s second arrest was made by New Jersey State Police. Through an investigation Massachusetts State Police VFAS received information that GEORGE A. SMITH would be on a bus in New Jersey. New Jersey State Police with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Service, conducted a traffic stop of the bus. GARY A. SMITH was on the bus and taken into custody without incident. GEORGE A. SMITH had two outstanding warrants for Failure to Register as a Sex Offender: One out of Fall River District Court and one out of Boston Municipal Court. GEORGE A. SMITH was booked at the Morristown New Jersey State Police Barracks. He will be taken to court later today in Mt. Laurel, N. Jersey
In 1978, SMITH was convicted of Rape for a violent sexual assault in Boston. SMITH grabbed a 15-year-old girl around the neck and dragged her to the roof of a housing project. He then forcibly raped her and subsequently received a 12 year state prison sentence for the attack.
