Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 110913 – Two Overnight Rollover Crashes in Worcester Area Result in OUI Arrests
Last night, at approximately 11:45 p.m., troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Holden responded to the ramp from Rt.12 to I-190 southbound in Worcester. Arriving troopers found a single vehicle rolled over on the ramp. Trooper Salvucci encountered the operator, MATTHEW MELVIN, 24 of Shrewsbury, MA who was uninjured in the crash. Subsequent to Trooper Salvucci’s investigation, MELVIN was placed under arrest and charged with Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol and Marked Lanes Violation. He will be arraigned in Worcester District Court on Tuesday, due to the Monday holiday. The ramp was closed for approximately 45 minutes with minimal impact on traffic. Approximately thirty minutes later, troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Millbury responded to I-495 northbound at Exit 23C in Southborough on the report of a single vehicle crash with ejection. The operator of the vehicle, 44 year-old JEFFREY PHELAN of Bridgewater, MA was transported from the scene to UMass Medical Center in Worcester by Southborough EMS with non-life-threatening injuries. Subsequent to the investigation by Troopers French and Malhotra, PHELAN was summonsed for Operating Under the Influence of Alcohol, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Wear a Seatbelt. The middle and right lanes were closed for just under one hour with minimal impact on traffic.
