Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 110913 – Pedestrian Stuck While Walking on Mass Turnpike in Blandford

Last night, at approximately 11 p.m., the State Police Northampton Communications Center received numerous calls reporting an individual dressed in dark clothing hitchhiking in the westbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike in the vicinity of the North Road overpass in Blandford.

Patrols from the Westfield Barracks were dispatched and located a woman lying against the guardrail, just west of the North Road overpass. The 31-year-old female from Pittsfield had sustained serious injuries and is believed to have been struck by a passing vehicle, which has not been identified. She was subsequently transported to Baystate Medical Center by Westfield EMS.

Preliminary investigation indicates the female had originally been a passenger in a vehicle travelling on the Turnpike and had exited the vehicle for unknown reasons.
