Massachusetts State Police Release – 07052013 – State Police Assist Central Falls RI Police in Pursuit

Today, July 5, 2013 at approximately 5:13 p.m., the Massachusetts State Police assisted the Central Falls, R.I., Police Department. Central Falls Police were in pursuit of a vehicle on Interstate 95 traveling north into Massachusetts from Rhode Island.

Troopers from H Troop and D Troop assisted as the pursuit which reached speeds over 100 miles per hour.  The fleeing operator led the chase down Interstate 495 Southbound, before crashing as it attempted to exit onto Route 24 South. A crash occurred on the off-ramp from I-495 in Raynham.  Two suspects fled from the vehicle on foot where a short foot pursuit ensued.  The driver, CHELSEA SMITH, 26, of Providence, R.I., and her passenger, KEVIN SMITH, 29, of Rhode Island were captured and taken into custody.

The operator, SMITH, will be charged with failure to stop for police, speeding, marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of a property damage accident, failure to signal, Breakdown lane violation, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and fugitive from justice.  She will be arraigned, tentatively on Monday in Taunton District Court.

Central Falls PD will be charging SMITH with charges relating to her offenses in Rhode Island.  The passenger was not charged and later released.
