Massachusetts State Police Release –Motor Vehicle Stop leads to Arrest of Suspect for Stolen Motor Vehicle

Tuesday morning at 12:30 a.m. Trooper Rafael Cazares, assigned to the State Police Barracks in Springfield, was on patrol on Route 20 in Springfield in the area of Plainfield Street when he observed a green Ford F-150 make a motor vehicle infraction. A check of the registration revealed the license plate was stolen and was registered to another motor vehicle.  Trooper Cazares activated his emergency lights and stopped the motor vehicle on Lowell Street.

Trooper Cazares spoke with the operator, RODRIGO DIAZ, 27, of Springfield. DIAZ produced a Massachusetts Identification card. A check of DIAZ’s license revealed it to be revoked and was deemed to be a Habitual Traffic Offender.

While conducting the motor vehicle stop, Trooper Cazares observed the rear window broken and the ignition switch damaged.  Trooper Cazares performed a check of the vehicle identification number (VIN) which revealed the motor vehicle was stolen.

DIAZ was taken into custody and transported to the Massachusetts State Police Barracks in Springfield where he was booked.  DIAZ was later transported and held at the Hampshire House of Correction.

 

RODRIGO DIAS was charged with the following offenses:

1) Larceny of a Motor Vehicle

2) Receiving Stolen Property

3) Use of a Motor Vehicle without Authority

4) Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Revoked License-Habitual Traffic Offender

5) Attaching Plates

6) Marked Lanes Violation

7) No Front Plate Violation

 

Trooper Cazares was assisted by Troopers assigned to the Springfield Barracks and Officers from the Springfield Police Department
