Massachusetts State Police Release–02052013–Suspects Pursued, Arrested After Fleeing MV Stop
THIS IS A PRELIMINARY REPORT
A trooper was struck in the arm by a suspect who fled a traffic stop in rented car this morning.
The incident began at 5:35 a.m. on. Route 93 north in Woburn. The trooper had the car stopped with two suspects in it when it suddenly sped away after he had exited his cruiser and approached the car on foot.
A pursuit ensued as troopers from Troop A responded. The pursuit went through Reading, North Reading and Andover as the suspects initially evaded capture. The vehicle was identified as a Thrifty Rental Car out of Lawrence. Andover PD discovered the vehicle traveling on Route 28 north about a half-hour later. The vehicle fled again but eventually hit stop sticks, a tire deflation device, in Lawrence. The vehicle was then pursued at low speeds through the City of Lawrence before it was stopped and two suspects apprehended at 106 Willard St. in Lawrence by State and Lawrence Police.
No further information, including the reason for the initial stop, the suspects’ IDs, and the nature of the injury to the trooper, is available at this time.
