Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 02152018 – State Police Investigating Fatal Crash in Palmer

Today, February 15, 2018 at about 1:10 p.m., Troopers from the Charlton State Police Barracks responded to a two-vehicle crash which ultimately resulted in the death of a Warren woman.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Chris Brown indicates that a 52-year-old Warren woman was traveling on Route 90 eastbound in Palmer in a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The Trailblazer was operating at a high speed when it entered the breakdown lane striking the guardrail. The trailblazer bounced off the guardrail into the side of a tractor trailer. The Trailblazer then rolled over ejecting the operator, with the Trailblazer coming to rest on its roof in the middle of both lanes. The tractor trailer a 2001 Volvo jackknifed blocking the left lane.

The operator of the Trailblazer was transported to Wing Hospital by ambulance where she was subsequently pronounced dead.  The operator of the Volvo Tractor Trailer was uninjured in the crash.

All lanes were closed for 45 minutes, at that time the breakdown lane was opened for travel. The two travel lanes were closed for 6 1/2 hours.

This crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and troopers assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.

State Police were assisted on scene by Palmer Fire and EMS and Mass DOT.
