Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 11192017 – State Police Investigating Pedestrian Fatal Crash on Route 3 in Weymouth
Tonight at about 6:15 p.m., State Police from the Norwell Barracks responded to a crash on Route 3 Northbound, north of Exit 15 in Weymouth which resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
State Police received a call from a motorist about a pedestrian walking in the roadway on the ramp from Route 18 (Exit 16) towards Route 3 Northbound in Weymouth. While responding to the area, State Police received another call from a motorist reporting that he had just struck a pedestrian on Route 3 Northbound, between Exit 15 and 16.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Carol Leurini indicates that a 59-year-old man from Cranston, R.I., was traveling on Route 3 Northbound in a 2006 Honda Accord when his vehicle struck the pedestrian in the left travel lane. As a result of the collision, the adult male pedestrian was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene.
The cause of this crash, including the reasons why the pedestrian was walking on the highway, is still under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section. No charges have been filed at this time.
State Police were assisted on scene by Weymouth Fire and EMS, MassDOT, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification and family notification.
