Massachusetts State Police Media Release -09282017- Methuen man and Lawrence Woman Arrested for Intent to Distribute Marijuana
Shortly after 8:30 Tuesday night, Trooper Joseph Diliegro was on patrol on Amesbury Street in Lawrence when he observed a Ford Explorer driving with no headlights. Trooper Diliegro stopped the vehicle, and as he approached it he observed the operator, later identified as TOMMY MARTE, a 23-year-old Methuen man, making quick, furtive movements. The trooper noted an extremely strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and observed a small bag containing vegetable material believed to be marijuana on the floor. He then observed a larger bag of vegetative matter believed to be marijuana. Trooper Diliegro also observed large amounts of United States currency in various locations in the vehicle and on the driver’s person. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery, in plain sight, of a large unzipped black duffel bag containing 29 large clear plastic bags of vegetative material believed to be marijuana, nine plastic bags containing approximately 90 tubes of “THC Rolls,” five additional large clear plastic bags of a substance believed to be marijuana throughout the vehicle, plastic bags, four cell phones, and a total of $65,598 in cash in numerous bundles secured with rubber bands. Details of the packaging of the narcotics and the money were consistent with practices used in drug distribution. No effort had been made to conceal any of the items. The driver, and the passenger, MERY RODRIGUEZ, a 24-year-old Lawrence woman, were each charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance (marijuana); possession with intent to distribute a Class C substance (THC); and conspiracy to violate drug laws. The driver was also cited for operating without headlights and driving while in possession of an open container of marijuana.
