SECOND UPDATE: Aug 24 Fatal Crash Rt 95 Reading

SECOND UPDATE Aug 24 Fatal Crash Rt 95 Reading

The deceased victim in yesterday’s crash on Route 95 in Reading is identified as Christopher Weisz, 42, of Bedford. He was operating a 1987 BMW K-100 RS motorcycle, and was thrown from the bike after being struck by a 2005 Subaru Impreza. Mr. Weisz was transported to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, where we was pronounced deceased.

The sequence of events that caused the fatality began at approximately 9:40 a.m. when a 2008 Saab 93 operated by LYNN DEWOLFE, 50, of Tyngsborough, which was traveling northbound, crashed into the 2005 Subaru Impreza. The Impreza was being operated by a 85-year-old Natick woman. The impact of that collision caused the Impreza to crash into the jersey barrier and flip around, ending up facing southbound in the northbound lanes. The Impreza began traveling southbound in the northbound lane and struck the motorcycle, as well as a 2010 Toyota Camry and a 2012 Toyota Corolla.

The operators of the Camry and the Corolla were transported to Winchester Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. The operator of the Impreza was transported to Lahey in Burlington with minor injuries.

DEWOLFE, as you know, was arrested several exits away and charged with operating under the influence of drugs; leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury and death; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; and marked lanes violation. The investigation is ongoing and may result in additional charges.

DEWOLFE was held overnight at the Essex County jail in anticipation of arraignment today in Woburn District Court.

No further information is being released at this time.  For original release, see below.

MassachusettState Police Media Release 08242017 – State Police Investigate Fatal Crash In Reading

The driver under arrest in connection with this morning’s fatal crash on Route 95 northbound near Exit 37 in Reading is identified as Lynn E. Dewolfe, 50, of Tyngsborough. The Massachusetts State Police determined that DEWOLFE was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the crash.

DEWOLFE is charged with the following:

  1. Operating under the influence of drugs;
  2. Leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury and death;
  3. Negligent operation of motor vehicle; and
  4. Marked lanes violation.

Preliminary investigation by MSP indicates that DEWOLFE, who was operating a 2008 Saab 93 sedan, was driving erratically and for that reason made contact with another vehicle, causing that vehicle to collide with a motorcycle. The male operator of the motorcycle was thrown from the bike and was transported by ambulance to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, where he was pronounced deceased. His name is not being released at this time.

DEWOLFE did not remain at the scene of the crash. She continued to drive on Route 95 and was reportedly involved in more crashes with other vehicles between Exits 38 and 42 before she stopped near Exit 42 and was taken into custody by a Wakefield Police officer and a state trooper.

As of this time DEWOLFE remains in custody at the State Police Barracks in Danvers. She is unlikely to be arraigned today.

Further details will be provided in subsequent releases.
