Massachusetts State Police Media Release—06112017— State Police Investigating Fatal Crash Route 3 Northbound in Tyngsborough
At approximately 6:30 a.m. today, troopers from the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash that resulted in the death of the driver.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Stephen Thompson indicates that a 2003 Volkswagen Passat was traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the operator, a 19-year-old man, lost control of the vehicle and veered right into the breakdown lane. The vehicle then continued into the grass area causing the vehicle to rollover. The Volkswagen came to rest at the tree line.
The driver was determined to be deceased at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation with assistance from the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and Crime Scene Services Section.
State Police were assisted on scene by Tyngsborough Fire, EMS and police, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and MA DOT.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
