Massachusetts State Police Media Release – 09202016 – Man Arrested for Cruelty to Child in Springfield
Today, at 12:30 p.m., State Police Barracks – Springfield broadcasted a Be on the Lookout (BOLO) for a 2006 gray Audi A4 bearing Massachusetts registration 5ASVW0. The original BOLO originated from New Britain, Conn. The BOLO identified the Audi driver as 28-year old Kurtis Webb, who had apparently forcibly removed his two children from the mother’s vehicle and fled the Connecticut area and was now in the area of Sumner Avenue, Springfield, MA.
Hearing this, Trooper Keller Williams, of the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section, headed toward Sumner Avenue. Trooper Williams shortly thereafter spotted a vehicle matching the description of the BOLO in the Walgreens parking lot located at the intersections of Sumner and Dickinson Avenue. Trooper Williams confirmed the vehicle’s description and registration. Additional troopers headed to assist Trooper Williams.
Trooper Williams, being equipped with this information then observed the male suspect, who was identified as Kurtis Webb, at the vehicle. Within moments, Trooper Williams had Webb in custody without incident and the children safely protected.
Coordination with Connecticut and Massachusetts child services officials reunited both children and their mother by this afternoon.
Webb was arrested and charged with being a fugitive from justice on Connecticut’s extraditable warrant for the following: (1) Cruelty Toward a Child – Risk of Injury, 2-counts, and (2) Disturbing the Peace.
