Massachusetts State Police Release–02052012–State Police Investigating Fatal Motor Vehicle Crash on Hyde Park Ave. in Boston
At approximately 2:40am this morning, Troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Milton Barracks, as well as officers from the Boston Police Department, responded to a two vehicle crash on Hyde Park Ave. at the Milton St. Bridge on the report of a two vehicle crash with serious injuries. The crash resulted in one fatality in the first vehicle and four, non life threatening injuries in the second vehicle. The deceased party has subsequently been identified as Patrick Fortuna, 24, of Hyde Park, MA.
The four injured parties are as follows:
A 24 year old female from Walpole transported to Beth Israel Hospital and discharged
A 23 year old male from Readville transported to Beth Israel Hospital and currently stable
A 23 year old female from Hyde Park transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and discharged
A 24 year old female from Hyde Park transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital and currently stable
Initial investigation by Trooper Brian Berry indicates that a 2003 Honda Civic operated by Mr. Fortuna was travelling South on Hyde Park Ave. when it crossed the center line of the roadway and struck a 2008 Honda Civic travelling North, head-on. The Civic was being operated by the 24 year female from Hyde Park.
Responding troopers were assisted at the scene by troopers from the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section and the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office/State Police Detective Unit, as well as personnel from the Boston Fire Department. Hyde Park Ave was closed in both directions for approximately 3 hours during the investigation. No charges have been filed at this point and the investigation remains open.
